An Epic List of All* of Fall's New Cookbooks
The 100+ titles include two on ramen, 23 for bakers, and one from Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
Welcome to Cookbookery Collective’s first ever September and October cookbook preview!
Most previews I see are curated selections of the cookbooks that whoever is writing the piece is most looking forward to. I love that approach, but wanted to try something different. (Especially since I pub a list of my favorite cookbooks in REAL SIMPLE twice a year.)
Here, I am attempting to be a completist…to list every cookbook that’s launching in the U.S. in September and October.
Let me tell you, this was a big job! After pulling this together, I think I understand the motivation behind the curated posts…. BUT, I’m happy to have the opportunity to take a few steps back and get a high-level view of what’s coming this season. A few observations:
We’re gathering! Or at least authors and publishers are betting we want to. Entertaining books are well-represented.
While they have other titles in the mix, publishers Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed are betting big on influencer/creator cookbooks.
Three Southern and one Appalachian cookbook makes a trend(let).
Asian, European, and Middle Eastern cuisines are well-represented; African and Caribbean cuisines are not.
Baking is BIG this fall, and I’m here for it.
This is the first year I’ve paid such close attention to allll the new releases. Is every fall this packed with new books? (Paging
) There’s a lot to be excited about! Before we dive in, a few caveats and explanations:
This post is definitely too long for email. Click through to read it on your desktop or read it in the app.
*Despite my best intentions, I’m sure I missed some books. If I did, please let me know, and I will both update this post and include them in my next newsletter.
The descriptions that follow each book are promo copy. I did this because 1) I am not able to deliver a cogent and insightful logline for every book being released this fall, and 2) I always find the marketing language interesting. What did the publisher think would be most enticing to potential buyers?1
This is my most footnote-heavy post ever.
All of these books are available for pre-order! Buy one, and make an author’s day.
Please let me know in the comments if you find this completist approach interesting/useful. If yes, I will do the same for November and December’s books. (If not, my feelings will not be hurt and you will save me a lot of time.) And, I want to know, what trends/titles stand out to you?

Or at least a new cookbook. Tell me, what’s your ONE must-have cookbook on this list?
Thanks for reading! If you enjoyed this post please tap the ❤️ button, restack, or share with another cookbook fan.
After this exercise, I now have a LOT of thoughts about which publishers write the best promo copy…and which don’t.
If you purchase a book through one of these links, I may receive a small commission.
My intention here is to include the co-writer if the name is on the cover. Please let me know if I missed any!
This is Bryant Terry’s imprint at Ten Speed.
One of MY most beloved Paris restaurants, too!
A division of Penguin Random House
This may win the award for most creative concept
I don’t know if this is Gallery’s first cookbook, but cookbooks are definitely not this S&S division’s bread and butter. Think romance, thrillers, memoir, etc.
What an EPIC undertaking. A few questions: how did you find all these books? I’m so curious about sources for such an exhaustive list. Also, how long did this take? I feel like people should understand what a HUGE commitment this was to put together.
A few observations: lots of entertaining, gathering, southern, Asian. I see some single subjects that pique my interest too. I tried (unsuccessfully) to sell a Caribbean cookbook and it’s been revised and will be resubmitted in the fall. I’d love to see more of that popping up.
Seeing all these books over the span of just a few months leaves me feeling both excited and exhausted. It feels so true that it’s hard to find something new and fresh and yet here’s a list of a lot of that. Or old concepts reimagined in some cases.
As someone who almost exclusively represents cookbooks, I only have one book in this list. When I look at my fall books, more than a few are other non-fiction titles. It wasn’t until I saw all these cookbooks and compared it to my list of fall titles that it really started to sink in how much I’m selectively expanding my representation.
Lastly, it feels important to remember that many of these titles are from pitches a few years ago. So the quantity of creator led books and entertaining/parties makes sense coming out of the peak pandemic years. This fall list feels right on track with what I expect to see.
Oh actually this is my last observation: while there are a few celebs on here, it’s nice to see so many real deal chefs and award winning/nominated authors on here. Most fall cookbook line up’s have the celebrity bent and this list looks pretty industry led which is cool IMO.
What a list! Thank you for compiling it. And what a joy to have mine (SILK ROADS) included. Still pinching myself sometimes that this is really happening!
